Sound = Space is an interactive music generation / performance instrument, allowing a single user or many users to create, perform and explore music.
Developed and built in 1979 by digital music pioneer Rolf Gehlhaar, Sound = Space in some ways is still way ahead of its time.
A complex array of ultra-sonic sensors detects a person [or persons] in a space, and from their movements creates sound and music.
Sound = Space has been exhibited and performed internationally and has incredible applications for people with special needs. It allows those who are unable to learn traditional instruments for any reason, to make music.
Currently Vahakn is working with Luis Miguel Girão of Art and Tech research company Artshare, to use Sound = Space as a live music production / performace instrument. Concentrating mainly on dance music applications, with a view to creating the first ever multi-user-crowd-performed gerative soundsystem. Watch this space! . . Video coming soon
